Way back when, wealthy fans of the gladiator fights would sometimes commission elaborate mosaics. These pieces would feature their favorite fighters in action – sometimes with each person’s name hovering above them. This mosaic infers that commercialism perhaps had creptinto sports even way back then. And yes, those are tiny “Nike” swooshes on their gear.
